Obituary

Janet Martha (Wintrode) Nace, age 94, of Hanover, passed away in her own home surrounded by prayer and her family on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Norman B. Nace, Jr., with whom she shared 74 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2022.

Janet was born on October 10, 1929, in Silver Run, Maryland, in the County of Carroll. She was the daughter of the late Roy Elmer John and Martha May (Koontz) Wintrode. Janet was a proud graduate of Littlestown High School, Class of 1947. She lived on her family farm until she met Norman at her father's public farm sale. They married a few months later on September 27, 1947. Their farm was widely known by the community for putting up a "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year" sign across the road each year.

Janet loved the Lord and witnessed to anyone she met. She attended various Bible studies and visited the Holy Land of Israel three times with Norman. She was an active member in the Hanover First Church of God. She enjoyed going to MEPS where she and her husband distributed countless Bibles to the young men and women being inducted into the armed forces. Her life was a testament to her dedication to her community and her love for her family. She was a devoted Girl Scout Leader and served as the Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack 118. Her commitment to service continued in her work with Gideon's International and the Gideon Grange #2010 in Hanover.

Janet and Norman loved to travel and took many vacations all over the world. In addition to visiting all 50 United States, they took trips to Austria, Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Switzerland. She had a passion for cooking and cherished the time spent with her family. Janet's role as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was central to her life, and she deeply valued every moment spent with her loved ones.

Janet is survived by her children, Stephen B. Nace and his wife Beverly of Hanover,
Joan B. (Nace) Sterner of Hanover, and Jeffrey M. Nace of Walnutport; her brother, Nevin L. Wintrode of Girard; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. She will also be remembered by many loving extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Wintrode, her sisters, Mildred (Wintrode) Berwager and Helen (Wintrode) Renner, and her son-in-law, Bradley E. Sterner.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Nace will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Hanover First Church of God, 600 Fairview Dr, Hanover, PA with Rev. Dan Thomas officiating.
