Obituary

Janice A. (Markline) Eckert, 88, of Glen Rock, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at UPMC Memorial Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Russell W. Eckert, Jr.; together they shared 54 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2009.

Born October 11, 1937, in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Louis E. and Elma G. (Greaser) Markline.

Janice dedicated 25 years of her life working as an inspector for AMP Incorporated. She found great joy in the simple pleasures of life—gardening, tending to her flowers, and spending time outdoors farming and fishing. She also enjoyed trips to the beach, but above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family, who were the center of her life.

Janice is survived by her daughter, Cindy L. Crowl and her husband Dave of Dover; her sons, M. Travis Eckert of Crocheron, MD, and Darren D. Eckert of Dover; her beloved grandchildren, Tiffany, Fred, Dalton, and April; great grandchildren, Carter, Tanner, Braelyn, Daxton; and a number of adopted family members who held a special place in her heart.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by her son, Russell "Reds" Eckert, III; her daughter, Terry A. Langkam; her brothers, Homer Markline, George Markline; and her sisters, Edith Gilland, Marie Wholaver.

A service to celebrate Janice's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA, with Rev. Cindy Orewiler officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Paul Dubs Union Cemetery, Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
