Obituary

Jean E. (Malehorn) Dell, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully entered God's eternal care on Monday, September 25, 2023, at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover. She was 91 years old and had lived a life filled with love and cherished moments.

Jean was born on January 7, 1932, in her beloved Hanover, a daughter of the late Lewis E. and Mary E. (Miller) Malehorn. She grew up in this close-knit community, and it was here that she built the strong bonds of family and friendship that would define her life.

Jean was the wife of the late Paul L. Dell, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her companion of 40 years, James Wayne Waltersdorff; five siblings: Ruth Thoman, Janet Livingston, David Malehorn, Audrey (Link) Miller, and Robert Malehorn, Sr., and a granddaughter.

Family meant everything to Jean, and she cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Gathering with her loved ones, especially during the holidays, brought her immense joy. Her warm and welcoming spirit made every family gathering a memorable occasion. In her younger years, she also enjoyed spending time at the Hanover Home Association, where she formed lasting friendships.

When she wasn't surrounded by family, Jean found solace in watching the Hallmark channel, where she could enjoy heartwarming stories and moments of comfort.

Jean is survived by her three children: Paul L. Dell, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Hanover, David E. Dell and his wife Urith of Abbottstown, and Norma Williams of Hanover. She is also survived by her sister, Annamae Aumen of New Oxford, four cherished grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members and friends who held a special place in her heart.

A service to celebrate Jean E. Dell's life will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA, with Rev. Cindy Orewiler officiating. Family and friends are invited to share their memories and pay their respects at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of the service on Monday. Jean will be laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. Pallbearers will be Paul E. Dell, Jr., David E. Dell, Troy Dell, Jason Dell, Kevin Dell, and Kirsten Dell, with Tyler Dell serving as an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, in Jean's honor.
