Jean M. Scott, 87 of New Oxford passed away peacefully on June 13 th , 2021 at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community. She was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late Irvin E. Scott, Sr., who passed away on March 3, 2012.
Born May 12, 1934 on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth C. and Eleanor (Wilhelmy) Coffin.
Jean is fondly remembered for her dedication to her family as a loving mother, wife, grandmother and homemaker. Born and raised on Nantucket Island, she was very proud of her ancestral lineage to England and the whaling industry. She was a 1952 graduate of Nantucket High School, then went to the Comptometer School in Boston. She then worked as a clerk at the Siasconset Post Office on Nantucket Island, where she met her future husband, Irvin E. Scott, Sr. Irvin was a Coast Guardsman at the Nantucket Loran Station and met Jean while performing his duties picking up the mail. Jean and Irvin lived in Reisterstown, MD for 45 years where they raised their family and later moved to the Cross Keys Village in New Oxford. Upon her passing, Jean had lived at Cross Keys for 16 years. She was also an avid walker and loved cooking, especially for her 4 grandsons.
Mrs. Scott is survived by 2 children: Linda M. Bongiovano and her husband, Samuel of New Freedom and Irvin E. Scott, Jr. and his wife, Holly of Carolina Shores, NC., as well as 4 grandsons: Joshua I. Scott and his wife, Ambre of Raleigh, NC, Matthew R. Scott of Philadelphia, PA, Anthony S. Bongiovano and his wife, Lauren of Boise, ID and Donald L. Bongiovano of York.
In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Coffin.
A memorial service to celebrate Jean's life will be held in private with her immediate family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory in Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Adams Regional EMS; 13 N. Bolton St.; New Oxford, PA 17350.
