Obituary

Joel Brent Fisher passed away unexpectedly in his home on July 14, 2025, at the age of 53. He was born April 14, 1972, to Gordon Fisher and Katherine Fisher (Hemmeter) in Hanover, Pennsylvania, where he remained for the entirety of his life.

Joel attended public school in South Western School District. Joel is survived by his loving wife, Gina Fisher (Garver), to whom he was married for 29 years (Sept. 14, 1996), and his three children: Christopher Fisher, Brent Fisher, and Brianna Fisher, along with his granddaughter Wrynlee Fisher and his beloved dogs, Mae Mae (Bossy B) and Athena (WiggleButt).

Joel is also survived by his parents, along with his two brothers and sisters, Mark and Joyce Fisher, Jeff and Mary Lou Fisher, and their families. Additionally, Joel will be remembered by the partners and spouses of his children: Bailey Fisher, Olivia Valentino, and Tyler Somerville, whom he considered his own. He has friends who were his brothers and sisters, not by blood, but by the incredible bonds that were created throughout his life. Joel enjoyed doing many different things in his life.

Those who knew him knew that he was a man of many hobbies and skills. Whatever project or task Joel took on, he did it passionately. Early in his life, he enjoyed drawing, freestyle BMX and other extreme sports, swimming, fishing, and hiking trips with his brothers. Joel also had a special interest in martial arts, surfing, and simply being around his friends and family. As he grew up, he developed a love for computers, where he obtained training, schooling, and certifications. Joel owned many vehicles throughout his life; however, his 1989 Jeep Grand Cherokee XJ held a special place in his heart. He modified the Jeep for rock crawling, which initiated an interest in RC cars. Joel loved studying wilderness survival techniques, and so much more. As Joel got older, he took on a generational interest in candle making from his father and grandfather. Joel made many candles and gifted many to those who meant the most to him. He enjoyed spending his time at the beach with his wife, where he felt the most at peace, even more so once his granddaughter Wrynlee was born. Joel sincerely had an interest in just about anything and everything you could imagine. As his children became adults, nothing meant more to him than realizing each one of his kids shared an interest in the same hobbies he did. Joel was a problem solver and could fix just about anything. If there was ever a doubt, he would use his resources and the network he created over many years to get the problem solved. This ultimately led to his profession in construction, where he had a natural ability to quickly learn and utilize problem-solving skills to become a true craftsman. He would constantly reach out and help those in need, even if it meant sacrificing something of his own.

Joel will live on through his many loved ones. He was a father, husband, brother, and son. He was extremely proud of his children, who will continue to share his love and positivity with others and spread mental health awareness.

His memorial service will be held August 2, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church on 200 Frederick Street, Hanover, PA 17331. Details for a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
