John Barnett Jones, Sr., 76, of Hanover, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at UPMC Harrisburg.  He was the loving husband of Mary L. (Brooks) Jones, Hanover; together they shared 54 years of marriage.

Born August 25, 1946 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Alvin Leroy Jones, Sr. and Ida Elizabeth (Kerns) Jones.

John was employed as a gas surveyor with Baltimore, Gas and Electric for 29 years, retiring in 2002.  He was a member of Harvest Time Temple, Hanover and enjoyed hunting, fishing and sprint car racing.  John was a huge country music fan and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, John B. Jones, Jr. and wife Torrey, Omaha, NE, Jennifer Lynn Smith and husband Jeffrey, Hanover and Laura Marie Laughman and husband Brian, Hanover; brothers, Alvin Jones, Jr. and wife Blanca, Havre de Grace, MD, Kenneth Jones and wife Sandy, Youngstown, PA, Bryan Jones, Sr., Parsonsburg, MD and Richard Jones, Sr. and wife Ashley, Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Alexander Jones, Marcus Jones, Angelina Jones, Ryan Dutterer, Kiersten Davis, Mason Smith, Austin Laughman and Connor Laughman and great grandchildren, Waylon, Wayne, Holden, Phillip and Aurora.

A service to celebrate the life of John B. Jones, Sr. will be held at a later date.
