Obituary

Joseph W. Becker, 87, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at home. He was the loving husband of Mary L. (Holt) Becker; together they shared 67 years of marriage.

Born June 29, 1934 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Joseph L. and Vera (Luckenbaugh) Becker.

Mr. Becker was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather; he loved getting together with his family and spending time with them. Joseph was a very hard worker and loved his job; when he was in 10 th grade, he started working at Swam Electric on a part time basis and then went to full time once he graduated, he continued to work there retiring at 65 and then continued to work at Swam for an additional 10 years part time totaling 60 years of working at Swam. In Joseph's free time he enjoyed golfing, fishing and working outdoors. He was a member of the McSherrystown Home Association and various other local clubs.

In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by two children, Joseph Henry Becker and his wife Pamela of Hanover, Kimberly Kauffman of Dover; six grandchildren, Amy Wolf and her husband Tim of Hanover, Joseph Becker and his wife Heather of York, Tim Becker of Hanover, Olivia Kauffman and her husband Jacob Robinson of Hanover, Victoria Kauffman and her significant other Tyler Simmons of York, Dain Kauffman II of Dover; two great grandchildren, Jaxon Wolf, Ryanne Becker; two brothers, Dave Becker of Hanover, Dennis Becker of York. Mr. Becker is also survived by two very special neighbors and friends, Phil and Gerri Smith of Hanover.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Becker was preceded in death by three brothers, Reuben, Guy and Clark Becker and a sister, Vera May Fuhrman.

A service to celebrate the life of Joseph W. Becker will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with the Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier officiating. A time to share memories with the family will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.
