Obituary

Joseph A. McCray "Joe," of Hanover, PA, entered into the final phase of God's Eternal Care on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at age 88.

Born April 5, 1935, in South Dennis, NJ, he was the son of Joseph A. McCray and Emma (Champion) McCray. He was the loving husband of Lillian A. (Smith) McCray for 63 years.

Joe served in the U. S. military from 1957 to 1959, receiving a Good Conduct Award. During most of his service time, he was stationed in Germany. He attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering, graduating at the top of his class. Following that, he attended Newark College of Engineering, Newark, NJ, where he earned a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for the Department of Defense at Ft. Monmouth, NJ, from September of 1964 until October of 1997.

Joe and his wife, Lillian, moved to Hanover, PA, in early 2001 from Wall Township, Monmouth County, NJ.

Joe had many hobbies including tent camping, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, traveling, reading and studying the Bible, and memorizing scripture. He had been a member of Grace Tabernacle Church in South Belmar, NJ (now known as Lake Como), and Calvary Bible Church, Hanover, PA. He had been a member of the team that went out "soul winning" frequently in downtown Hanover, as well as going once a month to Baltimore, MD, witnessing and to summer carnivals in the area, both with Agora Evangelism Ministries.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Brenda J. (McCray) Dinne of Hampstead, MD, and her husband, Jack; Joyce A. (McCray) Morley of Lancaster, PA, and her husband, Greg; 4 grandchildren, Joshua Joseph Morley, Samuel Cooper Morley, Sean Matthew Dinne, and Colleen Mary Dinne; two great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter (and 1 on the way); and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by an older brother, Elmer F. McCray, and his wife Elizabeth (Betty), and a twin brother, John M. McCray, and his wife, Lura Jane.

Funeral services will be held at Calvary Bible Church, 603 Wilson Avenue, Hanover, on Saturday, May 6, 2023. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the "Celebration of Life" service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Marburg Memorial Gardens, 2510 Grandview Road, Hanover, with full military honors rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Greg Morley, Sam Morley, Jack Dinne, Sean Dinne, Colleen Dinne, and Elber McCray.
