Joseph A.
Palya
May 9, 1954 — May 20, 2025
Joseph Anthony Palya, 71, of New Oxford, PA, entered into God's eternal care on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at UPMC Hanover Hospital.
Born on May 9, 1954, in Windber, PA, Joe was the son of the late Joseph G. and Ann M. (Novotny) Palya.
Joe was a 1972 graduate of Shade High School and attended Concord College in Concord, WV. He went on to work as a quality control engineer throughout his career.
Joe had a deep love for the outdoors and sports. He was an avid downhill skier and golfer, and in his younger years, he enjoyed playing a variety of sports, especially during his college days. A devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, Joe also found great joy in fishing and gathering with family. He was happiest cooking for loved ones, sharing meals like Dave's stuffed peppers or liver and onions, and cherishing time spent with those closest to him. Known for his warm spirit and jovial nature, he was a beloved brother and uncle.
He is survived by six siblings: John J. Palya of Charlottesville, VA; Dolores A. Tudor and husband Larry of Venice, FL; Daniel A. Palya and wife Theresa of Hedgesville, WV; Richard A. Palya and wife Margretta of Silver Spring, MD; David A. Palya and Mary Bernadski of Lancaster, PA; and James A. Palya and wife Sarah of Butler, PA. Joe is also lovingly remembered by five nieces—Tracy, Tara, Nicole, Abigail, and Shannon—and two nephews, August and Christopher. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence A. Palya and William A. Palya.
A memorial service to celebrate Joe's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles Street, Red Lion, PA 17356, with Pastor Rev.
