Josephine "Josie"
Maryann Luckenbaugh
Mar 21, 1933 — Oct 4, 2024
Josephine MaryAnn "Josie" Luckenbaugh, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and homemaker, went to be at peace with her Lord on October 4, 2024 in Hanover, Pennsylvania, at the age of 91.
Born on March 21, 1933, Josie had a certain radiance that came from loving well and being well-loved. She was a 1951 graduate of William Penn Senior High, York, PA. and in 1951 Josie Brown married her high school sweetheart and partner in life, Robert Luckenbaugh. Together with love, and more than a little patience, they raised four children, Judy Funke (Chris), Ron Luckenbaugh (Louise), Randy Luckenbaugh and Jeanne Fermier (Steve) in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Family was a great joy to her and were treated accordingly. Always a dedicated wife and mother, she was a proud grandmother to Angela Funke (Wade), Erika Campbell, Jeremy Luckenbaugh (Kendra Bowman), Ryan Luckenbaugh (Samantha), Logan Luckenbaugh (Fiancé Katrina Roshak), Courtney Luckenbaugh and great-grandmother to Ty, Anya, Aiden, Landon, and Hudson.
Josie's faith and service was a central part of her life. She served on numerous church committees and especially enjoyed her years in hospitality service at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover. Additionally, Josie served as a nurse's assistant for 17 years at Hanover Hall. Josie made many connections to friends through her life of service, her grace and empathy are well-remembered by those connections she fostered.
Josie was a connoisseur of simple pleasures, especially time spent at home in the company of family. Her ultimate joy was family gathering around a home-cooked meal. From Josie we learned to celebrate the ordinary. Her favorite destination was Cape May, New Jersey where generations of family gathered and celebrated yearly for decades. She was passionate about serving others and observing wildlife. She admired beautiful skies, especially colorful sunrises and sunsets, and the echo of the call of loons across Cranberry Lake in Ontario, Canada.
Josie is preceded in death by her parents Austin and Ethel Brown, in-laws Charles and Ada Luckenbaugh, husband Robert Luckenbaugh, and brother Barry Brown.
We are left with gratitude and fond memories for her presence in our lives. A funeral service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church (address below) on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am in the church parlor preceding the 11:00 am service which will be followed by a bereavement luncheon in Fellowship Hall. The graveside service will be private for immediate family.
For those desiring, please consider making a donation in Josie's memory to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, PA 17331, or to SpiriTrust Lutheran (The Village at Utz Terrace), 2100 Utz Terrace, Hanover, PA 17331 who have been providing such complete and empathetic care for Josie and the family through hospice services, www.spiritrustlutheran.org.
