Judith A.
Smith
Aug 14, 1940 — Aug 13, 2024
Judith A. (Freeman) Smith, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Hanover Hall, just one day shy of her 84th birthday. She was the devoted and beloved wife of the late James A. Smith, Jr., with whom she shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support, before his passing in 2022.
Born on Wednesday, August 14, 1940, in Hanover, Judith was a cherished daughter of the late Alfred H. and Beatrice B. (Bittinger) Freeman.
Judith was the epitome of love and warmth, a woman whose heart knew no bounds. As a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her family was the center of her world. Judith's selflessness was evident in every aspect of her life. She was always there, putting her family first, ensuring that everyone was cared for and felt loved. She lovingly tended to her parents in their later years, ensuring they received the same care and attention they had once given her.
Her and her husband enjoyed life's simple pleasures, often exploring new restaurants and savoring time spent together. In her recent years, Judith found solace and joy in reading, her favorite books to read we those written by Danielle Steel.
Judith is survived by her son, James A. Smith, III, and his companion Diane Deal of Hanover; her grandchildren, James A. Smith, IV, and his wife Jen of New Freedom, and Kyle M. Smith and his wife Taylor of Hanover; and her precious great-grandchildren, Addie Smith and the twins, Isla and Killian Smith. Judith's legacy of love and kindness extends to her three siblings, Gary Freeman, Dawn Bankert, Randall Freeman, and many loving extended family members and friends, all of whom will deeply miss her caring nature and unwavering love.
In addition to her parents and husband, Judith was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Strausbaugh and Lois Groft.
A Funeral Liturgy to celebrate the life of Judith will be held at 11 am on Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Rev. Michael Rothan officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Monday from 10 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery, Hanover.
