Karen S. (Murphy) Lugo, 67 of Hanover passed away peacefully at the Gettysburg Center on Sunday, February 8, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Rene Lugo.
Born September 22, 1958 in Denton, MD, she was a daughter of the late Merritt B. and Dorothy S. (Wells) Murphy.
Mrs. Lugo is fondly remembered as a dedicated matriarch who loved her family above all else. She was also a dedicated public servant, spending a long career as a security officer for the District Court of Maryland in Carroll County. In her free time, she found great enjoyment in casino games, lottery and playing candy crush on her mobile device. She also loved going out to eat and experiencing a wide array of diverse cuisine.
In addition to her husband, Karen is survived by two daughters: Charo N. Dubon of Hanover and Tiffany R. (Lugo) Rager and husband Justin of Hanover; her grandson, Asher J. Rager of Hanover, and her two brothers, Dale Murphy of MD and Donnie Murphy and wife Jeannie of MD.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Burke Murphy and her two sisters: Peggy Lynn Rust and Frances E. "Sissy" Beulah.
A funeral service to celebrate Karen's will be held at 2pm on Thursday, February 12th at Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.; 549 Carlisle St. in Hanover with Rev. Cindy Orewiler officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be at the funeral on Wednesday evening, February 11th from 5:30 to 7:30pm, and again on Thursday afternoon from 12noon until the start of the service at the funeral home.
