Larry R. Sterner, of Hanover, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at Hanover Hall Nursing Facility. He was the loving husband of the late Annie Viola (Lee) Sterner; together they shared 38 years of marriage, before her passing in 1995.
Born March 18, 1935 in Hanover, he was the son of the late Lilly Alverta Sterner.
Larry was a proud veteran of the US Army and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church York St. where he enjoyed singing in their church choir. Mr. Sterner loved to work outside in his garden and vacationing to Ocean City, Maryland for boating and crabbing. Larry was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed watching the games.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Belinda L. Morningstar and husband Marty of Hanover; son, Michael J. Sterner and wife Terry of Gettysburg; his companion of 13 years, Donna Conrad; Half-sisters Karen Flick, Beverly Kopp, Shirley Creager, Nancy Homan all of Hanover; and five grandchildren, Chrystal Morningstar, Mark Morningstar and wife Kim, Justin Sterner and wife Tiff, Audrey Schetrompf and husband Martin, and Michael J. Sterner, Jr. and wife Kelly.
In addition to his mother and wife, Larry was preceded in death by his half-brothers Ken Utz and Pete Utz; and half sisters Mary Bechtel and Kass Clark.
A service to celebrate the life of Larry will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Rev. E. Robert Burkhart officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, where full military honors will be rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Sterner's memory to the Diabetes Association at PO Box 7023 Merrifield, VA 22116 or to Grane Hospice Care 1010 Plymouth Rd Suite D, York, PA 17402.
