Leroy N. Bechtel, 91, of York, PA went peacefully home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Cross Keys Village, The Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, PA.

Born Thursday, February 9, 1933, in Pleasant Hill, York County, PA, he was son of the late Richard N. and Anna M. (Markle) Bechtel. Leroy married Phyllis J. (Snyder) Bechtel, sharing 68 beautiful years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Leroy graduated from Eichelberger High School, Hanover, PA. He worked at Hanover Wire Cloth Co during school and after graduation with Hanover Tool & Specialty Works. He later worked for P H Glatfelter Co in Spring Grove, PA and finally held several positions in the planning department at Caterpillar Tractor Co in York, PA. In retirement, he enjoyed country music, following sports, and tinkering in his workshop.

A proud veteran, Leroy served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1956. He was stationed at Fort Knox, KY for basic training and tank and wheeled vehicle training, then on to Korea for 18 months. He was discharged after serving in the motor pool at Ft. Bliss, TX.

In addition to his wife, Leroy is survived by two sons, Wayne Bechtel of Red Lion, Jonathan Bechtel and his wife Lynne of Lititz; four grandchildren, Matthew Bechtel and his wife Kelli, Jennifer Walker and her husband Eric, David Bechtel and his wife Emily, Andrew Bechtel and his wife Adelee; three great grandchildren; four siblings, Sterling Bechtel, Phyllis Graybill, Glenn Bechtel, Barry Bechtel, and many extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by a son, Donald Bechtel and two brothers, Cyril and Orvin Bechtel.

Services to celebrate Leroy's life will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 with a viewing from 9-10 am and worship beginning at 10 am at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St. Hanover, PA with Rev. Eric Palmquist officiating. Interment will follow at Marburg Memorial Gardens, 2510 Grandview Road Hanover, PA 17331 with full military honors rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Wayne Bechtel, Jonathan Bechtel, Matthew Bechtel, Eric Walker, David Bechtel, and Andrew Bechtel. A fellowship luncheon will be held at 12 pm at Wolf's Covenant Church 4501 Wolf's Church Road York, PA 17408.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wolf's Covenant Church.
