Louise Elizabeth Kauffman, 83, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at home.

Born June 3, 1941, in Mummasburg, PA, Louise was the daughter of the late George Albert & Alice Rachel (Hartman) Bowling. Her family lived in the Adams County area for many generations and often reminisced during family events "on the farm." Louise was the loving wife to Frederick Eugene Kauffman for 60 years, celebrating most recently on June 13th.

She was a graduate of Gettysburg High School and Shippensburg University. Many of her students from Littlestown, and the surrounding school districts, remember her fondly for her business knowledge as well as her no non-sense approach.

Louise was involved in many organizations, including The Elks Ladies Auxiliary, YMCA garden club, York County Retired School Personnel, dancing to the sweet notes of Jazz/ Frank Sinatra, and creating a makeshift produce stand from her garage and patio. She believed strongly in giving back to the community. If the garage door was open, you knew to come in the side door! You just might be given a lesson on how to make a casserole, or which fruit and vegetables were in season. She took great joy in cooking for her family and friends. Louise and Fred were members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover. They raised their children to have a strong set of morals and values.

In addition to her loving husband Fred, Louise is survived by her two children; Chad E. Kauffman and his partner Hiroko Koike of Washington, DC, and Heather L. Kauffman, of Hanover. Louise also leaves behind her four siblings--Marie Gertrude (Bowling) Re and her husband Arthur of Orrtanna; Ruth Ann (Bowling) Spence of Gettysburg; Donald George Bowling and his wife Ginny of Gettysburg; and Keith Edward Bowling and his wife Karen of McKnightstown.  Louise was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sonja Louise Kauffman, her brother, Wayne Francis Bowling, as well as two infant brothers.

A funeral service to celebrate Louise's life, will be held 11 AM, Saturday, September 7, 2024, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA 178331, with Pastor Faye Snyder officiating. A viewing and time to visit with the family will be held at the church, Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 10 AM to 11 AM.

Louise believed funerals were a celebration of life, and not a place you go to mourn. Please be inspired to wear a touch of color in your clothing.
