Obituary

Louise E. Groft Lookenbill, age 84, formerly of Hanover, Pennsylvania, and most recently of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward D. Lookenbill, Sr., who passed away in July 2016. They shared 55 years of marriage together.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy L. Wildy and her husband, LeRoy (Chip) Wildy; her son, Edward D. Lookenbill, Jr.; and her six cherished grandchildren: Brandon Lookenbill and his wife, Brandi Lookenbill; Brooke Lookenbill, Bryli Lookenbill, Tyler Lookenbill, and Kyle Lookenbill; and Nicole (Nikki) Wildy.

She was the daughter of the late Catharine F. Hollinger Groft and Alvin John Groft Sr. of Littlestown, PA. Louise is survived by her sisters, Alvina Taughinbaugh, Charolyn Becker, and her brother Alvin “John” Groft Jr. She is also survived by several nephews, nieces, cousins, and many dear friends.

Louise was a graduate of Littlestown High School in 1961 and of Maryland Medical Secretarial School, Hagerstown, MD. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church Littlestown before later joining Trinity United Church of Christ in Hanover. Louise worked for The Hanover Evening Sun and The Carroll County Times. She also devoted many years to helping operate the family’s businesses. Louise and Edward were respected business owners in Hanover for many years, operating Dutch's Hoagie House, Baer Avenue Bar and Lounge, BH Weight Loss Center, and Sponseller's Tastee Freeze. Through these businesses, they formed countless friendships and became well known throughout the community.

Louise was a proud 50-year Life Member of the Order of Eastern Star White Rose Chapter No.360 (formerly Hanover Chapter No. 378). She served as Worthy Matron from 1978-1979 and again from 1981-1982 and was District Deputy Grand Matron from 1983-1984. Throughout her years of service, she received numerous statewide appointments, served on various committees, and remained dedicated to the organization’s charitable and community efforts. She was also a past member of White Shrine of Samaria No. 43 in Gettysburg, PA, Harmony Court of Amaranth in Hanover, the Hanover Penn Laurel Girl Scouts, where she served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader at St. Matthews Church, and The Cruisin’ Corvette Club of Hanover. After retiring to Florida, Louise became an active member of the Lakes Edge Social Club, where she also served on the Board of Directors.

Louise treasured time spent with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed taking cruises, visiting the beach, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. She will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to her family, strong work ethic, and the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life. Her home was often a gathering place for family and friends, and she cherished every opportunity to bring loved ones together. Her love, generosity, and unwavering dedication to family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
