Lucinda
Anderson
Dec 3, 1940 — Sep 7, 2024
Lucinda "Cinda" Anderson, 83, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Utz Terrace. She was the beloved wife of Rev. Dr. Clair Anderson, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on December 3, 1940, in Erie, Pennsylvania, Cinda was the daughter of the late Burdette and Esther (Unger) Peterson.
Cinda had a wide range of interests and hobbies that reflected her love for family and community. She was passionate about family genealogy, knitting, and music, playing both the piano and dulcimer, and she also participated in her church's handbell choir. A lifelong traveler, Cinda visited nearly all 50 U.S. states, as well as Canada and several European countries. She enjoyed camping and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Her son Jon fondly remembers her as a natural storyteller who loved to share family memories and recount trips they had taken together. She was a strong support for her family, and was known for her kindness and her talent in the kitchen, she was famous for hosting a special smorgasbord on Christmas Eve every year.
Her daughter-in-law shared this touching tribute on social media, reflecting on the impact Cinda had on their family:
"We lost Paul's mom, Cinda, yesterday morning. She was a huge part of our lives and our children's lives and was beloved by her extended family and many friends and former parishioners all over the U.S. For the past few years, she suffered from dementia, and while I'm missing her already, I also have been missing visiting and conversing with her as we did for so many years. I know there are jokes about mothers-in-law, but mine was extraordinarily respectful, curious, non-judgmental, considerate, and loving, despite our different backgrounds and faiths."
"She taught me how to crochet, build Legos with Daniel, and helped teach Adam to knit. She made me feel welcome in her home and part of the family immediately. Despite our differences, she always treated me with love and respect. We have so many happy memories to comfort us."
Cinda was deeply involved in her community and church and was also the valedictorian of her high school class. She worked in a medical lab for many years to help fund her sons' education and also supported her husband in his ministry. Even after moving to assisted living, she continued to knit blankets and beanies for children in the local hospital.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Anderson is survived by her loving sons, Paul Anderson and his wife Michelle, David Anderson and his wife Maria Helena, and Jon Anderson and his wife Brooke; 8 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
In accordance with Mrs. Anderson's wishes, there will be no public viewing. Following cremation a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, PA, with Rev. Dr. Kathy Vitalis Hoffman and Rev. Faye C. Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover.
