Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" (Phillips) Lee, a beacon of dedication and love, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the Maryland Masonic Home in Cockeysville, MD. Born on March 25, 1931, in Lynch, Kentucky, Peggy was a cherished daughter of the late Claire W. and Mallie M. (Davidson) Phillips. She was the beloved wife of Robert Elwood Lee, with whom she shared a remarkable journey of 70 years, woven together with love, respect, and shared dreams.

Peggy's early years were marked by her education at Sparrows Point High School, graduating in the class of 1949. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Towson State Teachers College, now known as Towson University, where she laid the groundwork for her future in education. Peggy devoted her life to enlightening young minds as a grade schoolteacher at Manheim Elementary. While teaching, she pursued further education, earning her master's degree from Shippensburg University in the 1970s. Her passion and dedication to education were evident as she took on the role of head teacher at Manheim Elementary, retiring in 1990 after a distinguished career.

Retirement did not slow Peggy down; it merely opened a new chapter of service as she was elected township supervisor, serving her community with the same dedication she showed in education for 12 years. Peggy's adventurous spirit took her around the globe, from the ancient wonders of China to the vibrant cultures of South America, and almost every state in the USA. Her love for sewing and an extensive flower garden reflected her creativity and connection to nature. A faithful member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church since 1964, Peggy's spiritual journey was as rich and fulfilling as her worldly adventures.

Peggy's legacy of love and service lives on through her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Elwood Lee; daughter, Janice Lee Dymowski and husband Leo of Baltimore, MD; son, Robert M. Lee and wife Melissa of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Alan Erb (Adrienne), Amanda Lee, and Aidan Lee (Chelsea); great-grandchildren, Josiah Erb, Jackson Erb, and Peyton Underkoffler; siblings, James Phillips of TN, Mary Ann VanSkike of IA; and a host of loving extended family members and friends. Peggy was predeceased by her brothers, William and Charles Phillips.

In honoring Peggy's wishes, there will be no public viewing, services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Angels or Maryland Masonic Homes, in recognition of their care and support.

Peggy's journey was one of purpose, love, and immense contribution. Her memory and the impact of her work will forever be cherished and remembered. To share memories of Margaret "Peggy" (Phillips) Lee and view a video tribute, please click the "Guestbook" link below.
