Obituary

Matthew D. Hilker, 43 of Spring Grove passed away at home on Friday, February 27, 2026.

Born July 20, 1982 in York, he was a son of Rose M. (Dubs) Hilker and the late John L. Hilker, Sr.

Following graduation from Southwest High School in 2000, Matt proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy.  He was a skilled athlete, having played football for Southwest High School, and later for the Hanover Rhinos Semi-Pro team.  He also excelled at church league softball.  A Superman enthusiast, Matt was a loyal fan of the "old school" character portrayed by Christopher Reeve.  He was also an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, especially Cal Ripken.  His family will also fondly remember his sense of humor, his love of political discussions, and his vocal talent serving in the Calvary bible Church Choir.

In addition to his mother, Matt is survived by three siblings: Angie Hilker of Thomasville, John L. Hilker, Jr. and wife Katie of Spring Grove and Kim Hilker of Hanover; his nieces & nephews: Samuel Hilker, Keara O'Brien, Will Hilker and Jack O'Brien.

A funeral service to celebrate Matt's life will be held at 11am on Monday, March 9th at Calvary Bible Church; 603 Wilson Ave. in Hanover with Pastor Dom Aquilino officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Paul's Dubs Church Cemetery in Hanover.  A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will also be on Monday at the church from 10am until the start of the service.
