Mervin L. "Dutch" Dubs, 87, of Hanover, passed away on November 21, 2023, at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York.
Born in York County near Black Rock on July 17, 1936, to Guy H. and Margie M. (Jones) Dubs, Dutch lived a life marked by service, community engagement, and a deep commitment to his family.
Dutch is survived by his loving companion, Deborah M. Mummert; his siblings, Harold H. Dubs, Glenn E. Dubs, Doris M. Baker and her husband Fred, and Gloria A. Baney; his children, Desiree A. Krenzer and her husband Anthony, David A. Dubs and his wife Sharon, and Daune Dubs, widow of his predeceased son, Dwayne A. Dubs. He also leaves behind his stepchildren, Randy Krebs and his partner Tiffinee, Mark Krebs and his wife Pam, Kirby Mummert, and Alicia Mummert. A proud grandfather and great-grandfather, Dutch was cherished by his 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and son, Mr. Dubs was preceded in death by his companion Goldie Krebs and stepson Aaron Mummert.
A 1953 graduate of Hanover's Eichelberger High School, Dutch was a man of diverse talents and interests, some of which were being a motorcycle enthusiast, an avid pilot and a love of nature and camping. He faithfully attended Calvary Bible Church on Wilson Avenue in Hanover for many years. His dedication to his community was evident through his service of eight years with the Pennsylvania National Guard and several years with the Hanover Police Force. Dutch was not only the original owner and operator of Dutch's Hoagie House but also served his community as Hanover's Magisterial District Judge for 18 years, followed by nine years as Senior Magisterial District Judge.
Dutch's life was a testament to his strong work ethic, unwavering faith, and profound love for his family and community. He will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a beacon of kindness. His legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A service to celebrate the life of Mervin L. "Dutch" Dubs will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Calvary Bible Church, 603 Wilson Ave, Hanover, PA, with Pastor Dominic Aquilino officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover. Pallbearers will be; Desiree Krenzer, David Dubs, Anthony Krenzer, Mark Krebs, Randy Krebs, and Kirby Mummert.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to American Cancer Society
