Obituary

Mrs. Myrtle Gertrude Miller Gent, 91, passed from this earth to life everlasting in the presence of her beloved Saviour, Jesus Christ on April 07, 2019. Myrtle Miller Gent was born August 23, 1927 to Leslie Andrew Miller and Neith Isador Moon Miller of Vestal, NY. She graduated from Vestal High School and later from Houghton College with a degree in languages. She married the love of her life, Donald Herbert Gent on June 25, 1949.  Myrtle and Donald knew each other as children in the primary grades of Sunday School at First Baptist in Endicott, NY; they started dating while in college.  After marriage, she went with Donald to NYC where he was in Columbia Presbyterian Medical School and she worked for GM Financial. Myrtle was the original executive director of Tender Care Pregnancy Center and the original coordinator of the Christian Women's Club of Hanover.  She also served on the board of the Hanover/Adams Counseling Center.

Her greatest joys in life were creating a loving home for her husband and family; teaching and sharing her love of Jesus Christ and helping others.  She loved to travel and for many years the family owned a travel trailer and enjoyed summers throughout New England and Canada.  In later years she and Donald traveled to Israel, Eastern Europe, England and Bonaire.

Wherever she lived, she was active in her church as choir director, Sunday school teacher, women's Bible study teacher and soloist; she did family counseling, mentored younger women and supported and encouraged her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved life; loved flowers, birds and gardening and helping others.

Myrtle is survived by her loving husband of nearly 70 years, Donald Herbert Gent, M.D., as well as by son Douglas Harlan Gent (Vivian Halberg Gent); daughter Rebecca Ann Becker (David Eugene Becker); Daughter Kathryn Leigh Gent; and son David Leslie Gent (Partner Susan Jones); by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Donna Helene Gent Lind of North Plainfield, NJ (Steven D. Lind, survives).

A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at the Hanover First Church of God, 600 Fairview Dr., Hanover, PA 17331.  A supper will follow at the church.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to Trans World Radio: TWR 300 Gregson Dr., Cary, NC, 27511; or Freedom to Lead: PO Box 3, Cary, NC 27512.
