Myrtle Amelia
Satterfield
Feb 2, 1935 — Jan 14, 2026
Myrtle Amelia (Nace) Satterfield, 90, of Hanover, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully into God's eternal care on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Robert G. Satterfield, with whom she shared 47 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2006.
Born February 2, 1935, in Hanover, York County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence G. and Marie (Whisler) Nace.
A lifelong resident of Hanover, Myrtle was a 1953 graduate of Eichelberger High School and a 1957 graduate of Millersville State Teachers College, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She also completed additional undergraduate studies at Shippensburg and Millersville. She married Bob in 1958, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and service.
Myrtle was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where she devoted countless hours in ministry and leadership. She served on the Church Council, Parish Education Committee, and as Council Secretary; taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, serving as an in-depth class coordinator; sang in the adult choir; served on the Discovery Place Nursery School Board; participated in the tape ministry, counting team, and served as a representative to HACC. She also supported community outreach through Meals on Wheels and the Council of Churches. Her faith and dedication touched generations within her church family.
Professionally, Myrtle devoted 30 years to education. She taught first and second grade in the New Oxford School District for three years, and kindergarten at the South Western School District for 27 years, retiring in 1993. She was honored as Teacher of the Year, a testament to her love for children and passion for teaching. She remained active with the York County Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, and always delighted in reconnecting with former students.
In her personal life, Myrtle enjoyed reading, knitting, family camping, traveling, and time spent with family and friends. She traveled to most of the 50 states and treasured every adventure and gathering.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Shenk and husband Kevin of Spring Grove; sons, Joel Satterfield and wife Jennifer of York, and David Satterfield and wife Maryanne of Wayne, PA; grandchildren, Abby Shenk Schreffler and husband Robby of York, and Matthew Shenk; great-grandchildren, Avery and Evelyn Schreffler; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carl H. Nace.
