Obituary

Nel A. (Stover) Wallace, 82 of Hanover passed away peacefully at her daughter, Jeanne’s home on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Born at home on April 1, 1944 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Mark T. and Mabel V. (Brodbeck) Stover.

After graduating from Hanover High School in the class of 1962, she briefly served in the United States Marine Corps at Parris Island, S.C.

In 1962, Nel married Dennis H. Eltz, and from this union were born two daughters: Jeanne and Jenny, before the couple later divorced.

Nel is survived by her two daughters: Jeanne M. (Eltz) Learn and husband Ron of McSherrystown and Jenny A. Eltz of Bronx, NY.; her granddaughter, Sage J. Clermont-Cooper of Rancho De Taos, NM, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings: Mearie Naill, Mark T. Stover, Jr., Morris G. Stover, Lila M. Garrett and Allen D. Stover.

Nel served a long, dedicated career in banking, retiring as a Vice President at M&T Bank. Well respected in her community, the mention of her name always garnered the respect and gratitude of her family, friends, colleagues and clients whom she always went above and beyond to help. She was an avid reader, and also enjoyed gardening, golf, gambling, shopping and visiting Florida in the winter. Among all her endeavors, one of her strongest, lifelong passions was her love of animals, for whom she always cared and advocated for in any way she could.

Nel’s life will be celebrated in private by her family.
