Oscar Monroe Laughman, Jr., age 76, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Drena K. (Landis) Laughman, also of Hanover; together they shared 57 years of marriage.
Oscar was born on Wednesday, August 27, 1947, in Hanover, Pennsylvania, to his parents, the late Oscar M. Laughman, Sr. and Madeline C. (Small) Laughman.
Mr. Laughman proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his service, he dedicated 40 years of his life as a forklift operator at Miller Chemical until his well-earned retirement in 2012. Oscar's commitment to his work was unwavering. During his time at Miller Chemical, he also served in the National Guard, specifically assigned to A Battery 1st 108th FA, and he retired from the National Guard in May of 2003.
In his leisure time, Oscar found solace in the great outdoors, relishing moments of hunting and fishing. Above all, he cherished his family and enjoyed every moment spent with them, particularly the joy of playing ball with his great-grandchildren in the living room.
In addition to his loving wife, Drena, Oscar is survived by two children, Oscar M. Laughman, III, and his wife Jennifer of Jonestown, and Amy S. Laughman of Hanover. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jake Verheyen, Dakota Laughman, Connor Laughman, Melissa K. Laughman, Steven Laughman, and Jordan Laughman. His legacy continues with three great-grandchildren: Nathan Small, Jr., Hayden Laughman, and Joziah Spencer. Oscar leaves behind eight siblings: Terry L. Laughman, Sr., Larry L. Laughman, Jennie E. Kellison, David B. Laughman, Wanda K. Meckley, Debra A. Mummert, Barry J. Laughman, and Timothy A. Laughman. Additionally, he is survived by many loving extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Oscar was preceded in death by an infant son, baby Laughman, and a brother, Ronald Laughman.
There will be no public viewing. Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate the life of Oscar Monroe Laughman, Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA, 17331. A time to share memories with the family will be observed on Tuesday from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
