Obituary

Phyllis E. (Bixler) Walker, aged 85, of Hanover, peacefully transitioned into God's eternal embrace on Sunday, February 11, 2024, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her adoring family. She was the devoted wife of the late William E. Walker, with whom she shared a blissful 55-year union until his passing in June of 2015.

Born on April 2, 1938, in Westminster, MD, she was a cherished daughter of the late Vernon L. and Dorothy A. (Shaffer) Bixler.

Phyllis's life was a testament to love, dedication, and service. As a sister, aunt, and friend, she enveloped her family in love and cherished every moment spent with them. Her professional journey spanned over 42 years as a committed secretary at Double Day in Hanover, from where she retired in 1998. Phyllis and William were pillars of faith within their community, actively participating in Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Westminster, MD, and Grace Church of Hanover, PA. Their unique tradition of alternating Sundays at each church.

A passionate fan of Elvis, Phyllis's admiration for the music legend was profound. Together with William, she relished the joys of travel and the exhilarating world of NASCAR races, embracing every adventure with enthusiasm.

Phyllis leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by her sister Joyce A. Groft; brother Wayne L. Bixler; sister-in-law Malessie Bixler; nephews Gary R. Bowers and Brent A. Bowers; nieces Kimberly R. Farner and Heather L. Hull; alongside numerous friends and family who felt her warmth and generosity. She was predeceased by her sister Delores M. Bowers, brother-in-law Richard H. Bowers, and David A. Groft.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Anita Smith, Phyllis's dedicated full-time caregiver, and to her other caregivers and friends, Jessica, Brenda, and Amanda, for their unwavering love and support.

A service to celebrate Phyllis's remarkable life will be held at 12 pm on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Grace Church of Hanover, 55 Albright Dr., Hanover, PA, with Rev. Todd Christine officiating.
