Richard N. Hamilton, 85, of New Oxford, passed away peacefully at his home on October 4, 2023, just one day shy of celebrating his 66th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Jennette (Patterson) Hamilton. Born on January 23, 1938, in Elkins, VA, Richard was the son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Crickard) Hamilton.
Richard is survived by his four devoted daughters, Sandy Hamilton and her husband Rick Nigh of Eldersburg, MD, Kelly Miller and her husband Michael of Millsboro, DE, Colleen Citrano and her husband Randy of Bumpass, VA, and Stacey Naylor and her husband Tim of Eldersburg, MD. He was the proud and doting grandfather of eight grandchildren: Adam Sproul, Derek Miller, Patrick Miller, Dana Miller, Samantha Citrano, Brandon Citrano, Zachary Naylor, and Kyle Naylor. He also cherished his three great-grandchildren, Eliza Sproul, Lucas Sproul, and Finnegan Sproul.
Richard was a loving brother to Louise Kaline, Betty Harris, and Jean Sokolis. He was the treasured uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, and his warm, welcoming spirit touched the lives of countless extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two sisters, Jennelea Meyers and Lenna Mays.
Richard's life was defined by his unwavering dedication to his family, a legacy that will endure for generations to come. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished grandfather. His passion for spending quality time with his loved ones was a testament to the strong bonds he nurtured throughout his life.
Richard's professional journey began in 1955, while still in high school, when he embarked on a career with the B & O Railroad which became CSX during his tenure. He started in the mailroom and worked tirelessly to climb the ranks, eventually retiring in 1996 as Manager of Contract Administration for the Pricing Services Department. His dedication, work ethic, and commitment to excellence were evident throughout his career.
After retirement, Richard and his wife, Jennette, embarked on many adventures, traveling the world and crisscrossing the country. They shared a love for exploration and experiencing the beauty of our world together.
Richard's zest for life extended to his love of sports and his playful sense of humor. He was an active member of the Hanover Cycling Club, where he enjoyed cycling with friends and engaging in friendly banter. His laughter and jovial spirit brightened the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
Beyond his personal pursuits, Richard had a deep compassion for helping those in need. He was known for his generous heart and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever he could.
