Robert C. "Bob" Harner, 88 of Hanover passed away peacefully at the Genesis Healthcare Gettysburg Center on Sunday, December 3, 2023.  He was the beloved husband of 24 years to Garnett M. (Modena) Harner.

Born August 27, 1935 in Littlestown, he was a son of the late William and Bertha (Bachman) Harner.

Mr. Harner was a past member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 763 in Hanover, as well as Patmos Masonic Lodge # 348 in Hanover.  He was also employed as a supervisor of show manufacturing at Freeman Shoe in Hanover.  In his free time, he enjoyed going to flea markets and thrift stores and collecting military patches. Most of all, Bob loved people and is fondly remembered as a great storyteller who easily made friends with strangers.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his stepdaughter, Amanda Sinclair and her boyfriend, Alfred of Taneytown, MD; his sister, Joanne Folmer of Hanover; four grandsons: Michael, Austin, Gregory and Grant; two great-grandsons: Theodore and Clifford; one great-granddaughter, Gracelyn; three nephews: Craig King, Kevin Harner and Rich Harner and one great-nephew, Neil.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings: Earl, George, Fred, Lloyd, Rodney, Cass and Mary; one niece, Deb Walters and one nephew, Steve King.

A funeral service to celebrate Bob's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 8th at Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.; 549 Carlisle St. in Hanover.  A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will also be on Friday at the funeral home from 12noon until the start of the service.  Following cremation, interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Littlestown will be held in private by the family at a future date.
