Robert "Bob" Matthew Smith, 84, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, entered God's eternal care on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Gettysburg Center.
Born March 18, 1941, in Belsano, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late James and Anna (McEvoy) Smith. He was the husband of Shirley Jean (Bishop) Smith, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage until her death on December 14, 2021.
Bob worked as a plumber for most of his life. In his free time, he enjoyed carpentry, using his skills to craft cabinets and tables. Earlier in life, he also enjoyed fishing and going out exploring the Gettysburg Battlefield with his brother, John, where they liked to spot deer.
Bob is survived by four children, Ronald Smith of New Oxford, Richard Smith of Hanover, Barbara Jean (Smith) Hoover of New Oxford, and Roland Smith, as well as seven grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by at least one of his siblings, his brother Joe Smith. He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Smith, Jr., and Rodney Smith, as well as his siblings, Bernard, James, John, Kenneth, Ed, Henrietta, Margaret, Marie and Eileen.
Following cremation, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Bob's name be made to the Gettysburg Foundation online at www.GettysburgFoundation.org. Condolences may be shared online at www.WetzelFuneralHome.com
