Robert James Marten, age 79, of Abbottstown, PA, entered into God's eternal care peacefully on February 3, 2022 at ProMedica Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallastown, PA.

Born on December 16, 1942 in Rice Lake, WI, he was the son of the late Rev. O.H. and Hilda Bagel Marten.  Bob was the loving husband of Janet (Cox) Marten, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.

Bob was a 1960 graduate of New Richmond High School, New Richmond, WI.  He served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1961 – 1964. He then attended the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, graduating in 1969.  Bob was a Speech Pathologist working in St. Paul, MN School District and East China School District, East China, MI.  He retired after 35 years of teaching in 2004.  He and Jan then moved to Pennsylvania because of their interest in the Civil War, especially the Battle of Gettysburg.

Bob was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where he had a special interest in Mission Outreach.  While in MI he traveled with mission teams from Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Clair, MI, to Haiti and Panama.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jan, his daughter and son-in-law, Kris and Jeff Rouleau, grandson, Michael Rouleau and his fiancé Mercedes Gonzales, and granddaughter, Anne Rouleau.  He is also survived by his extended family.  He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Ruth Marten and Carla DeMuth and his in-laws, Dale and Gracie Charlene Cox.

A memorial service to celebrate Robert's life will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 19 th at St. Matthew Lutheran Church; 30 W. Chestnut St.; Hanover, PA 17331 with Rev. Kathy Vitalis Hoffman and Rev. Faye C. Snyder officiating.  A time to share memories and visit with the family will also be on Saturday, February 19 th at the church from 10am until the start of the service.  Interment will be private in Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg.

All in attendance at the church are required to wear a facemask.
