Obituary

Roy “Buddy” Aaron Bream, Jr., 87, of Hanover, PA, passed away surrounded by his family.

Born on New Year’s Day, 1939, he was the first baby born that year at Annie M. Warner Hospital in Gettysburg. He spent his early childhood in Flora Dale, PA before his parents moved to Hanover, where he attended school in the Hanover District.

Buddy graduated from Eichelberger High School in 1958 and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Klunk, beginning a loving marriage that lasted 68 years. Upon graduation, he went to work for his father at Roy A. Bream Motors on Carlisle Street. In 1979, he became the owner of the dealership at 548 Carlisle Street, operating it until 1997. Even after retiring from the dealership, Buddy continued buying and selling cars as an independent dealer—something he truly loved.

He was the son of Roy Aaron Bream, Sr. and Mabel Gochenauer Bream, and brother to Marlene Hansen of Hanover. He was preceded in death by siblings B. Rosemary Eline, Frederick H. Bream, and John W. Bream.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Shirley, and their children: Roy A. “Chip” Bream (Judy), Scott Bream (Roxanne), Lisa Brown (Derek), and Karen Bream. He leaves behind 6 grandchildren, 5 great‑grandchildren, and 2 step‑grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

Buddy lived life with enthusiasm and a big heart. He loved attending his grandchildren’s wrestling matches, cheerleading events, and other sports. He was a devoted fan of the Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins), NASCAR—especially Kyle Larson and other Chevrolet drivers—local dirt‑track racing, car shows, and anything car‑related. He enjoyed auctions, Penn State football, and other college teams. Country and bluegrass music were always favorites, and he never turned down peanut butter ice cream.

Whenever something went wrong, Buddy’s famous line was, “Blame it on Buddy.” He was a good husband, father, friend, and “Pappaw,” and he will be deeply missed by everyone who loved him.

A private service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, with a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.https://ycspca.org/
