Obituary

Russell G. Zumbrum, age 81, of Hanover passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at his home after a lengthy battle of lung cancer in the care of his loving wife.  He was born March 20, 1940 in Hanover, the only child of the late George and Pauline (Leppo) Zumbrum.

After a brief stint in the U.S. Navy in 1957, Russell married the love of his life Patricia (Louey) on September 26, 1959.  Along with his marriage to Patricia, he gained two daughters whom he was very proud of.

Russell held various positions at Miller Chemical, Hanover Canning, Alwine Brick Co. and HM Kelly Trucking, and was a daily bus driver for the South Western School District.  He retired in 1999 as a Shipping Foreman from PH Glatfelter Paper Mill in Spring Grove with 30 years of service and was a member of their Quarter Century Club.  After retirement, Russell jockeyed cars for Apple, Champion and Gettysburg Kia until his cancer got the best of him.

Russell especially enjoyed transporting high school students to their sporting events.  From the 1970's into the 1990s, he served his community for over 20 years as an Emergency Medical Technician with the Hanover Area Emergency Services and helped teach CPR to the public.  He was an active member of the Hanover Pacers for more than 35 years.  He also enjoyed deer hunting for a number of years.  Russell loved traveling with his friends or just his wife all over the Unites States.  They covered every state except Alaska, as well as abroad to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. There were also very fortunate to be able to visit Israel.  Russell had a great life and enjoyed all the many friends / people he met along the way.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Watching their sporting events was the highlight of his day.

Later in his illness, Russell reached to the Bible for comfort and enjoyed attending Captivate Community Church in Hanover.

Russell is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughters, Pamela Robison and Cynthia Kellerman; four grandchildren: Dwight Robison III (Amanda), Lance Robison (Jessica), Laura Kellerman and Jesse Bechtel (Katrina); eight great-grandchildren: Dylan, Noah, Sydney and Luke Robison, Gwendolyn and Beau Lee, Tucker Kellerman and Evelyn Bechtel as well as another great-grandson due in early Spring of 2022.
