Ruth M. (Krichten) Godfrey Mass of Christian Burial

Ruth M. (Krichten) Godfrey, 83, of York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover. She was the loving wife of the late Maurice D. Godfrey; together they shared 32 years of marriage before his passing in 1987.

Born Tuesday, October 5, 1937 in Bonneauville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Bernadette J. (Gebhart) Krichten.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister; she cherished her family and cherished spending time with them. Ruth was a devout member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Hanover and also a member of the Hanover Moose Lodge #227 and the Gettysburg Eagles; she worked for Snyder's of Hanover for 33 years retiring in 2001. In her free time Ruth enjoyed baking, listening to country music and in her younger years she loved dancing.

Mrs. Godfrey is survived by four children, Kathy A. Godfrey of York, Stephen A. Godfrey and his wife Patricia of Hanover, Lori A. Speelman and her husband Robert, Sr. of Dover, Victoria Lyn Godfrey and her companion Dan Troxell of Hanover; 11 siblings, Bernard Krichten of Abbottstown, Raymond Krichten of Littlestown, Mary Leppo of Littlestown, Doris Sanders of Littlestown, Richard Krichten of Reading, Marie Sanders of Westminster, MD, Lawrence Krichten of Gettysburg, Mike Krichten of New Oxford, Patrick Krichten of New Oxford, Judy Treadway of Hanover, Tom Krichten of Gettysburg; nine  grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and many other loving extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by two siblings, Janet Wolfe and James Krichten.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 3rd St, Hanover, PA with Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in St. Vincent Cemetery, Hanover. Pallbearers will be; Jessica Godfrey, Kayla Lawrence, Cassie Holtzapple, Robert Speelman, Jr., Jeremy Speelman, Jamie Smith, Nicholas Haley, Kenn Luckenbaugh and Kevin Luckenbaugh.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at the address listed above.
