Ruth N. (Hardesty) Machin, 97 of York, formerly of Hanover passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Country Meadows in York. She was the beloved wife of 70 years to the late Joseph E. Machin, Jr. who passed away on January 4, 2013.
Born October 24, 1923 in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Herman H. and Ethel P. (Mahon) Hardesty.
Ruth is fondly remembered as feisty, sassy and sociable. Most of all, she loved her family. In her younger years, she enjoyed painting. Later in life, she also enjoyed doing word searches and growing plants.
Ruth is survived by 2 children: Leslie A. Henry and her husband, Harold of Hanover and Joseph E. "Earl" Machin III and his wife Jetta of Glen Rock; 4 grandchildren: Tracey R. Beyer and her husband, Brian of Hampstead, MD, Tonya M. Nagle and her husband, Jeremy of Thomasville, Matthew T. Henry and his wife, Kayla of Hanover and Timothy S. Henry and his wife, Whitney of Virginia Beach; 1 brother, Vernon F. Hardesty and his wife, Joyce of Taneytown, MD, as well as 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her grandson, Joseph E. Machin IV and her brother, David E. Hardesty.
A funeral service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held on Thursday, March 18 th at 11am at Wetzel Funeral Home & Crematory; 549 Carlisle St. in Hanover with Pastor David Madara officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will also be on Thursday from 10am until the start of the service at the funeral home. Following cremation, interment will be private in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association – South Central PA Chapter; 3544 N. Progressive Ave.; Harrisburg, PA 17110.
