Obituary

Sarah Jean Spory, 71, of Hanover, PA, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Monday, April 21, 2025. Born December 21, 1953, in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Raymond "Chick" D. and Doris L. (Koontz) Boyd. She was the beloved wife of the late William R. Spory, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage before his passing on September 24, 2024.

Sarah was a 1971 graduate of Littlestown High School. She spent the bulk of her working years at Doubleday in Hanover, where she was employed as a proofreader until the company's closure. She remained active in the workforce through various other roles, continuing to work almost up until her passing.

A creative and nurturing person, Sarah was an avid reader who also enjoyed flower arranging, painting, and a wide variety of crafts. She found great joy in tending to her flowers and caring for her animals, both of which brought her peace and comfort throughout her life.

Sarah is survived by her brother, Terry E. Boyd of Cumberland, MD; her niece, Stacey Myers and husband Todd of Littlestown; great-nephews Jonah D. and Elijah K. Myers; and great-niece Eliana E. Myers, all of Littlestown. She is also remembered fondly by many other nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is further survived by her stepson, Wade Douglas Spory, and his wife Robin Kay (Laughman) Spory of Hanover; step-granddaughter Brianna Lee Spory; and step-grandson Jordan Dale Spory. Sarah also leaves behind many loving extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Deborah A. Bush, Helene L. Boyd, Cathy D. Boyd, Sharon E. Boyd, James D. Boyd, and her infant sister, Sandra Kay Boyd.

There will be no public viewing. A memorial service to celebrate Sarah's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Hanover Community Church, 1959 Smith Station Road, Hanover, PA 17331, with Pastor Scott Brown officiating. Following the service, the family invites all in attendance to join them for a luncheon at the church to continue sharing memories of Sarah.
