Shirley E. (Klinefelter) Bastress Funeral Service

Shirley E. (Klinefelter) Bastress, 84, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Pro Medica Hospice in York. She was the loving fiancé of the late Charles "Sponnie" Sponseller.

Born January 23, 1938 in New Oxford, she was a daughter of the late Leslie E. and Lena Mae (Forry) Klinefelter.

Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother; she cherished her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley had a passion for baking; she loved to bake a variety of different cookies, cakes and pies for her friends and family to enjoy.

Shirley is survived by four children, Denny L. Bastress and his wife Danette of East Berlin, Brenda E. Kennedy and her fiancé David Romo of Dover, Cary E. Bastress and his wife Lucy of Hanover, Cherie E. Clark and her husband Bill of New Oxford; 11 grandchildren, Duane Bastress, Deidrea Flickinger, Eric Bastress, Eriane Durrick, Shannon Avery, Cheyenne Kennedy, Ryan Bastress, Alica Bastress, Christi Toddes, Brittany Smith, Samantha Smith; 17 great grandchildren and many loving extended family members and friends. Shirley is also survived by her loving dog Snuggles.

In addition to her parents and fiancé, Shirley was preceded in death by a son, George W. Bastress, Jr. and two grandsons, David A. Kennedy, Jr. and Eugene Lee Bastress.

A service to celebrate the life of Shirley will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Rev. Dave Karn officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover. Pallbearers will be David Romo, Duane Bastress, Ryan Bastress, Cary Bastress, Denny Bastress and Bill Clark.
