Shirley Ann
Shorb
Apr 25, 1935 — Nov 9, 2023
Shirley A. (Day) Shorb, 88, of Hanover, entered God's eternal care peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Homewood at Plum Creek. She was the loving wife of the late Clair W. Shorb; together they shared 59 years of marriage before his passing in 2016.
Born Thursday, April 25, 1935 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late William L. and Beatrice K. (Fridinger) Day.
Shirley's journey left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her. A proud graduate of the Eichelberger High School class of 1953, Shirley's academic achievements were just the beginning of a life filled with purpose and dedication.
Mrs. Shorb was a dedicated member of Hanover First Church of God, where she found solace, community, and a platform for her musical talents. Shirley's love for music was manifested through her role as a pianist in churches and Christian organizations for countless years.
Professionally, Shirley contributed to the snack food industry, leaving her imprint on businesses such as Snyders, Wege, and Utz. Her dedication to her craft spanned 15 years at Hanover House.
Beyond work, Shirley shared the stage with her son Bill, creating memories that would be cherished for a lifetime. Together, they entertained at various social functions, with Shirley earning recognition for her endearing portrayal of "The Old Lady." Her performances were a testament to her vivacious spirit and the joy she brought to those around her.
Shirley and her late husband, Clair, were leaders in the community. They dedicated their time and efforts to senior citizen groups, fostering a sense of camaraderie and support within Kindly Keens and Silver Threads.
As we bid farewell to Shirley A. Shorb, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life woven with threads of faith, music, work, and community service. Her legacy is etched in the memories of those fortunate enough to have shared in her journey, a journey that touched hearts and created a lasting impact on the world around her.
Mrs. Shorb is survived by her son, William "Bill" C. Shorb of Hanover; a sister, Nancy L. Mann and husband Melvin; a brother, William L. Day, Jr. and wife Susan; an aunt,
Norma Kreidler; and an uncle, Pius Kaltreider. Shirley also leaves behind many loving extended family members and dear friends.
