Steven Alan Lehmann, 79, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at UPMC Hanover Hospital. A loving husband and devoted father, Steve cherished his family above all else. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn Mildred (Deise) Lehmann, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.

Born on January 30, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, Steve was the son of the late Carl Harrison Lehmann, Jr. and Audrey McCloskey Lehmann. He attended St. Jerome Catholic Grade School and graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute with the Class of 1966. He later studied law enforcement and criminal justice at the University of Baltimore.

Steve proudly served his country as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, including assignments in Phu Bai and An Hoa.

Shortly after returning from military service, Steve met Carol at a social club. He wrote her name and telephone number on the back of his honorable discharge papers, and just three weeks later, he proposed. The two married in 1970 and went on to share a lifetime of love, family, and adventure.

In 1971, Steve began a distinguished career with the Baltimore Police Department. During his nearly 30 years of dedicated service, he rose through the ranks and retired in 2000 as a homicide detective sergeant. Following his retirement from the police department, Steve continued his investigative work as a fraud investigator for the Maryland State Lottery.

Steve remained closely connected to his fellow officers, veterans, and service members throughout his life. He was affiliated with the Baltimore City Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Marines 1st Radio Vietnam Reunion Group, he served as vice president of the Descendants of World War II Rangers in honor of his father, and he was a member of the Bridges Golf Club, and Piney Branch Golf Club.

An avid golfer and traveler, Steve embraced every opportunity to enjoy life and explore new places. He and Carol traveled throughout the United States and abroad, creating treasured memories in Ireland, Scotland, and Hawaii, a favorite destination they visited six times.

Steve also had a deep interest in genealogy and devoted many hours to researching the ancestry of his immediate family, sister-in-law, and friends. When he was not researching family history or playing golf, he could often be found enjoying a game of chess, working on a crossword puzzle, watching Jeopardy, or reading about military history.

In addition to his wife, Carol, Steve is survived by his daughter, Alison A. Lehmann; his brother, Daniel J. Lehmann and his wife, Linda; his nephews, Daniel Lehmann and his wife, Esther, and David Lehmann and his wife, Kim; and many loving extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela A. Stephens.

A service celebrating Steve’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle Street, Hanover, Pennsylvania, with his brother, Danny Lehmann, officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday, September 10th from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
