Theresa M. McCarty
Theresa M. McCarty, 86, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at Cross Keys Village – A Brethren Home Community in New Oxford, Pennsylvania.
Born and raised in one of Baltimore's Polish Catholic communities, Theresa's faith and heritage were central to her life from the very beginning. She attended Holy Rosary Catholic Parish and School, continued her education at St. Michael's Business School, and later earned her GED while lovingly raising her three children, Lorraine, Philip, and Donna.
For many years, Theresa and her family were parishioners of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore, where the rhythms of faith, family, and community helped shape their home. She also devoted 25 years to caring for her disabled mother, a reflection of the steadfast love and sense of responsibility that guided her throughout her life.
Theresa was dedicated and hardworking. She spent much of her career in banking, first as a teller and later as a customer service representative, where her patience and kindness served others well. She also worked as a receptionist and office manager in various medical offices and healthcare facilities, bringing care, organization, and a welcoming presence to every role.
Theresa loved her grandchildren immensely, and they filled her life with joy and laughter. She delighted in caring for them and faithfully attended their school, church, sports, and scouting events. She enjoyed cooking, baking, decorating, cleaning—yes, truly—and hosting family holiday dinners, especially at Christmastime, her favorite season. Beginning each year after Thanksgiving, she baked dozens of Christmas cookies to share with family, friends, and neighbors. She also lovingly baked and decorated her grandchildren's birthday cakes, while her cooking, decorating, and flower arranging provided beautiful outlets for her creativity.
Theresa shared nearly 58 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Lewis W. McCarty, Jr., who preceded her in death on June 9, 2020. Their story began on a blind date while Lewis was serving in the United States Army and stationed at Fort Meade. Together, they built a family rooted in love, faith, devotion, and perseverance. Lewis cared for Theresa tenderly for many years before his own illness, a lasting reflection of the deep commitment they shared. The family also cherished visits to the West Virginia Panhandle, where Lewis was born and raised.
She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Philip Michael McCarty; her parents, Theresa Kate Brzozowski Adamski and Joseph Benjamin Brzozowski; and her brother, Bernard Brzozowski.
Theresa is survived by her loving daughters, Lorraine Kane and her husband, Joe, and Donna Buscemi and her husband, Buddy; her cherished grandsons, Benjamin Kane, Eric Kane, Viktor Buscemi, Nicholas Kane, and Rocco Buscemi; her sister, Alma Hardy; her brother, Ernie Brzozowski; and many extended family members and dear friends who will remember her with love and affection.
Theresa will be remembered as a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her life was marked by remarkable strength, unwavering faith, deep love for her family, and the quiet grace with which she cared for those around her.
Her memory will continue to live on in the stories, traditions, faith, and love she leaves behind.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date.
