Obituary

Timothy D. Bereznay, 66 of Hanover, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Gettysburg.  He was the loving husband of Sharon (Hornberger) Bereznay; together they shared 45 years of marriage.

Born Thursday, May 30, 1957, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late John T. and Josephine A. (Dobbins) Bereznay and brother of his late sister Tamma Lee Bereznay.

Mr. Bereznay was raised in the Baltimore area and went on to earn a B.A. degree in accounting from Loyola College in 1981.  He dedicated over 30 years to a distinguished career in the FBI, starting in February 1976 as a support employee in the Baltimore Field Office.  He became a Special Agent in March of 1981 and served in various offices, including Kansas City, New York, WFO, and FBI Headquarters.  Notably, he supervised several significant espionage cases and played a pivotal role in the investigation of Robert P. Hanssen.  Timothy's dedication to national security left an indelible mark on the FBI.

Outside of work, Timothy cherished his time with family and created lasting memories on vacations, particularly on cruises and trips to the Outer Banks.  He was a Maryland sports enthusiast and had a true passion for cooking and grilling.  He was also an avid reader who enjoyed casual rounds of golf and found happiness in the simple act of playing cards with loved ones.

In addition to his wife, Timothy is survived by his children, Ryan Bereznay and his wife Kristen of Queenstown, MD, Aryn Bereznay of Ellicott City, MD; two grandchildren, Mitchell Bereznay, Cori Bereznay; four siblings, Thomas Bereznay, Teresa Poston, Toby Bereznay and Todd Bereznay.                  Mr. Bereznay is also survived by many loving extended family and friends.
