Verdene "Dean" K. Lighty, 90, of New Oxford, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Cross Keys Village, the Brethren Home Community. He was the loving husband of the late Darlene "Frosty" W. (Frost) Lighty who died January 12, 2022.
Born January 29, 1932 in York Springs, he was the son of the late Travis Vincent and Mary Almeda (Paxton) Lighty.
Dean began his service to our country in the PA Army National Guard and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received the Meritorious Unit award and other war time medals. Dean retired in November, 1973 after a total of 24 years of service. He then worked with the National Park Service in Michigan, Indiana, Gettysburg and Maryland for 16 years. Mr. Lighty also worked for five years as the supervisor of grounds maintenance at Hanover Hospital.
He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, life member of the NRA, Hanover VFW, Post 2506, Hanover Amvets, Post 22 and the Disabled American Veterans. Dean attended and supported Hanover First Church of God.
Dean is survived by his sister-in-law, Delayne K. Morgan, Michigan and his nephew Timothy B. Morgan.
A committal service with military honors to Celebrate Dean's life, will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 11 AM at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Rd., Annville, PA with Pastor Dan Thomas officiating. Guests are encouraged to arrive at the cemetery by 10:30 AM.
