Wayne M. Gardner, 92, of McSherrystown, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Cross Keys Village, the Brethren Home Community, New Oxford.  He was the loving husband of Nancy Gardner, Hanover; together they shared 12 years of marriage.  Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his first wife, Cathy Gardner; together they shared 43 years of marriage.

Born November 21, 1929 in York, he was the son of the late Maurice and Pansy (Collins) Gardner.

Mr. Gardner was an optometrist on Baltimore Street in Hanover for 49 years and was a member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, Hanover.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife Nancy, Wayne is survived by his sons, David Gardner and wife Rhonda, York and Craig Gardner and wife Nga, Seven Valleys; grandchildren, Dusty, Kenny and Crystal and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nina Coyne.

A service to celebrate the life of Wayne M. Gardner will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 at 11 AM at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover with Rev. David L. DeLong officiating.  A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Monday from 10 AM until the start of the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be at 1:30 PM in Mt. Rose Cemetery, 1502 Mt. Rose Ave., York.  Serving as pallbearers will be, Bill Coyne, David Gardner, Kenny Gardner, Mark Hirschhorn, Jason Richard and Derek Nichol.
