William Roy Spory, 74, of Hanover, PA, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at home. Born November 19, 1949, in Johnstown, PA, William was son of the late Alfred William and Evelyn Ruth (Saylor) Spory. William was the loving husband to Sarah Jean (Boyd) Spory with whom he shared 36 years of marriage.
William graduated from Hanover Senior High School in the class of 1967. Later, he attended Susquehanna University and received his associate's degree in 1970.
William was a lifetime member of the Hanover Home Association where he worked over 25 years. After the Home, William worked at the Wal-Mart in Gettysburg for 17 years, until his death.
He was an avid billiards player and was instrumental in forming the York County Pool League, of which he was the treasurer for many years.
William enjoyed watching football, especially Penn State and the Baltimore Ravens, for whom he was a season ticket holder. His other passion was motorsports. He attended many NASCAR and Indy car races with his son during his life. This passion for racing began for them in the 1970's at local tracks such as Lincoln and Williams Grove Speedways.
In addition to his wife Sarah, William is survived by his son, Wade Douglas and wife Robin Kay (Laughman) Spory of Hanover, PA, granddaughter Brianna Lee Spory, and grandson Jordan Dale Spory. William was preceded in death by his sister Gail (Spory) McPherson.
Following donation of his body to science, a memorial service to remember William's life will be held at a later date.
